Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto Castle is a Japanese castle that is truly amazing, located in the city of Matsumoto, a few kilometers from Tokyo. The castle was built in 1504 and is currently listed as a National Treasure Japan. The castle was used until the mid-19th century. After the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Japan's new government broke and decided to demolish the castle and sell the timber and iron fittings (this is the fate of many castles in Japan at the time). Matsumoto Castle rescued by local residents and purchased in 1878.
